How Do You Enjoy |

Hello, and Welcome to our Facebook Page Over the past 10 years Yolanda and I have enjoyed hosting students from many parts of the world including; Korea, Poland, Brazil, Russia, Mexico, Germany, Colombia, Japan..... to name but a few. And we know that for most of these students coming to live and study in London was a dream come true. We considered ourselves very lucky because our students shared with us all their moments of happiness, sadness, being homesick, but most of all of their excitment and joy, and even told us things about London that we didn't know about. Every student had their own unique story to tell which always made evening meal times so enjoyable. For example, there was Luis from Mexico who stayed for 9 months and travelled throughout Europe and UK, Roman from Germany who lead a very active social life in London, Sylvia from Brazil who stayed in London for 5 years and worked as an International Lawyer, Hitomi from Japan who is now married with two beautiful twins and last but by no means least Chu from Korea who is now designing the latest cars at Hyundai. More than 100 students shared with us their own special culture and experiences which we always found fascinating. Oddly enough, the one big question that was always asked of us was, how did Yolanda and I meet. So let me share this with you now as this is our story. It was in April 2000, I was supervising a project in a big expensive house in Islington and one day an awful tragedy happened. I arrived to find the whole house covered in a white powder that occurred from a spillage - it was everywhere. And in my panic, I had to figure out how to get this cleaned up before the owners returned. I called my office and told them what had happened, they then arranged for a team contract cleaners to come in and clean the place up and I could only liase with their manager via telephone. Now, although we never met and inspite of the stress I was under, the manager had such a charming manner and tone of voice that I couldn't help to ask her from which country her accent was. We worked well together and the mess which had almost destroyed the house was cleared, so at the end it all turned out fine. Still impressed by her charm I decided to ask the manager if she would like to meet up for coffee. Two weeks later, on a friday evening, we met outside Bayswater tube station and went to "Arts Cafe" on Queensway where we chatted over a cup of coffee for almost an hour and a half. We enjoyed our short time together so much that we arranged to meet again on Sunday. This time at Hampstead tube on the High Street where we visited Coffee Nero then took a leisurely walk along Hampstead Heath chatting along the way. That evening I invited Yolanda to the cinema in Hampstead Village (now a supermarket) where we watched a typically English movie entitled "September". She loved it! We then discovered a common passion for visiting Paris, and it was there, during a spring weekend in June where we finally fell in love. Three months later we married and have shared an incredible 10 years together ever since. So yes, that's our story and if you didn't already guess, yes, Yolanda was here in London as a foreign student working and studying English. As you can see, life-changing experiences do happen in this vibrant city! We think it's now time for you to share your story with the rest of the world about your experience in London. What are your favorite places, such as bars, nightclubs, tourist attractions, what is it that makes you happy, or makes you sad... makes you laugh, or makes you cry... what do you love or hate about London... what do you remember the most about your time here... who impressed you the most and why. Just tell us about the things that matter to you and that are the most important things about your life here in London. Start now by taking this short survey. Just click on the link here: Click here to take the survey now. Join our project and tell your story to the world. Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Best regards Paul & Yolanda London UK |
